HELLO FROM WOFFF

Hello from the Women Over 50 Film Festival and welcome to our WOFFF Watchalong. This week’s we’ve got three beautiful Scottish films: an archive portrait of the country; a short drama, and a comedy. These films show the country over the last 100 years – from the northern and western isles, to the rural and urban landscapes and the people who live, love and work there in FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE by Virginia Heath; SLINGSHOT by Robin Haig and THE HIDE by Gaynor Macfarlane.

FILM TALK 1: ROBIN HAIG

SLINGSHOT director Robin Haig joins us from Scotland for this Film Talk to tell us about the inspiration for her short film.

SLINGSHOT

A Highland woman wants to be a Warrior Queen.
This film was available until 13 June. The film is no longer available to view but you can watch the trailer below.

FILM TALK 2: VIRGINIA HEATH

Director Virginia Heath joins us for this Film Talk to tell us more about the making of our feature film FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE.

FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE

In this evocative film, made entirely from archive film, director Virginia Heath’s FROM SCOTLAND WITH LOVE takes us a journey into the past exploring universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work and play. All of this is given voice by King Creosote’s haunting music and lyrics.
For viewers in the UK, click the image below to access the film free on BBC iPlayer. Viewers outside the UK can access the film on dvd here or it may be available on an on-demand platform.
This film is available on the iPlayer till 6 June 2020.

THE HIDE

In this short film, THE HIDE by director Gaynor Macfarlane, we are asked what if kindness and humanity outweighed self-interest? What if we had the insight to see that the thing imprisoning us could set another person free?

NEXT WEEK’S WATCHALONG

Our next film, on Thursday 11 June, is a Reframed Film selection THE FAREWELL by Lulu Wang. This film is available on Amazon Prime here or you can buy the DVD on Hive here. Trailer below.
