WOFFF25 Submit Your Film

Submissions for WOFFF25 are now open! With a slightly longer submissions period and a brand new category for Comedy, we’re hoping to see more films, from more filmmakers who are all spotlighting women over 50 and telling fun, fearless and real stories.

Details of how to submit are below; all submissions must go through our FilmFreeway page, which has more detail on guidelines and rules.

What are we looking for?

We want to showcase fun, fearless and real films made by and about older women.

We welcome submissions from all ages, all genders, all experiences, and from all around the world.

We want to see filmmakers over 50 driving the stories as filmmakers, creatives, and performers.

We also want to see work by younger filmmakers that centres on older women.

Each film we screen at WOFFF must follow one simple rule: It must have a woman over 50 at its centre on-screen, or a woman over 50 in the core creative team, as a writer, producer, or director.

Film submissions for our 2025 Festival are now open, and short script submissions will open in spring 2025. We accept only 50 scripts, so the script submission window is shorter than our film submission window.

What are the categories?

This year we’ve introduced Comedy as it’s own category! So you can now submit to:

  • Animation, maximum of 12 mins
  • Comedy, maximum of 12 mins
  • Documentary, maximum of 25 mins
  • Drama, maximum of 25 mins
  • Experimental, maximum of 12 mins

Short Scripts should be as yet unproduced as films and be no longer than 7 pages.

Every category includes submissions from Student filmmakers and we will award Student film in the ceremony during the Festival.

What is the timeline?

We’ve slightly extended the submissions window to give more people the chance to take advantage of Early Bird pricing.

Early Bird, submit by 12 January 2025

Regular pricing, submit after 12 January and before 27 April 2025

Late submissions pricing, submit after 27 April and before 22 June 2025

You will be notified about the status of your film by 20 July 2025.

Student Filmmakers can submit at any time for free.

When is the 2025 Festival?

In 2025, we will hold our 11th edition!

Since 2021, we’ve been a hybrid festival, taking place online and in person at our home cinema, Depot, in Lewes, East Sussex.

WOFFF25 at Depot will take place on Saturday 13 September and be the official opening of the Festival!

During the Festival at Depot we host the awards ceremony in which around 25 films are recognised by our judges. All short films selected for screening at WOFFF are eligible for our competition. Films are judged by professionals from each category—animation, comedy, documentary, drama and experimental.

WOFFF25 Online will take place from Sunday 14 September to Sunday 12 October, with all films being screened on our Eventive plaftform.
